Meaning of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

To all those of you who are not familiar with the meaning of Our Lady’s Miraculous Medal I wanted to prepare us for the Mass on November 27 the Church will be celebrating in honor of the Life of the Unborn. Take time and really meditate on what this medal means and why Our Lady has left it for her children. If you do not have a Miraculous Medal consider getting one and having it blessed by your priest and wearing this beautiful sacramental around your neck to remind you that you are a child of Mary and the Church.

God bless you,
Hannah’s Tears Ministry

The Meaning of the Front Side
of the Miraculous Medal

Mary is standing upon a globe, crushing the head of a serpent beneath her foot. She stands upon the globe, as the Queen of Heaven and Earth. Her feet crush the serpent to proclaim Satan and all his followers are helpless before her (Gn 3:15). The year of 1830 on the Miraculous Medal is the year the Blessed Mother gave the design of the Miraculous Medal to Saint Catherine Labouré. The reference to Mary conceived without sin supports the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary—not to be confused with the virgin birth of Jesus, and referring to Mary’s sinlessness, “full of grace” and “blessed among women” (Luke 1:28)—that was proclaimed 24 years later in 1854.

The Meaning of the Back
Side of the Miraculous Medal

The twelve stars can refer to the Apostles, who represent the entire Church as it surrounds Mary. They also recall the vision of Saint John, writer of the Book of Revelation (12:1), in which “a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of 12 stars.” The cross can symbolize Christ and our redemption, with the bar under the cross a sign of the earth. The “M” stands for Mary, and the interleaving of her initial and the cross shows Mary’s close involvement with Jesus and our world. In this we see Mary’s part in our salvation and her role as mother of the Church. The two hearts represent the love of Jesus and Mary for us. (See also Lk 2:35).

Gluten Free Diet and Infertility, something to ask yourself?

This is a subject that has been on my heart for quite a while… I am also seeing the need to go gluten free in the needs of my own health, maybe you will too. These words below in scripture ring true as I see many friends are seeking not to live by bread alone…

As we read in Matthew 4:4 Jesus says, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.”

Please find in part (below) some very important information taken from an article called , “Can a Gluten-Free Diet Improve Fertility?” by Hethir Rodriguez, MH, CMT . This is something to truly think about besides continuing to eat lots of fruits and vegetables each day.

The Gluten-Free Diet and Fertility

The longer that celiac disease goes untreated, the higher the risks are of developing problems with fertility and conception. Clinical studies have shown that women with untreated celiac disease have a very high rate of infertility with difficulties in conceiving. Untreated celiac disease also seems to affect a man’s fertility as it creates a hormonal imbalance that causes reproductive disturbances. read more

The Sixth sorrow- the descent from the Cross and laying in Marys arms

The Sixth Sorrow

6. The taking down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross: “Joseph of Arimathea, a noble counselor, came and went in boldly to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And Joseph buying fine linen, and taking Him down, wrapped Him up in the fine linen.” – Mark XV, 43-46.

Dear Little hearts,

The descent from the Cross and laying in Marys alms…. Christ is transferred from the altar of sacrifice to the altar of surrender and FIAT to Gods will.

He is laid upon the altar of Marys lap, and she as the most pure Mother, bride and daughter offers Jesus back to his father.

Pieta !!!!…….. this is a moment pregnant with meaning, pregnant with life in the midst of death, this is a mystery that we will all probaly live out in our lifetime, that of offering he/she whom we love back to God…
It is as all faith an invitation to trust, trust although the way ahead is a blank wall, a darkness he is with you and Mary is praying.

The Fifth Sorrow Mary at the Foot of the Cross

The Fifth Sorrow

5. The Crucifixion: “They crucified Him. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, His Mother. When Jesus therefore had seen His Mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, He saith to His Mother: Woman: behold thy son. After that he saith to the disciple: Behold thy Mother.” – John XIX, l8-25-27.

Dear Little hearts,

This is our vocation, this is where too we are called at some point or another in our lives, through our own sufferings, the suffering of others and through the sufferings of those dear to us.

We all are called to the foot of the Cross, Mary was faithful until the end, and that is the truest sign of love, the fidelity which believes all things, endures all things, hopes all things.

At the foot of our cross, there too is MARY, our Mother praying with us. God gave us the greatest gift we could ever receive as he hung dying… A MOTHER…. his almost last giving, was his greatest treasure his Immaculate and Holy Mother, cherish her, love her, and entrust to her your all!

The Fourth Sorrow- Mary meets Jesus of the way to Calvary

The Fourth Sorrow

4. The meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross: “And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented Him.” – Luke XXIII, 27.

Dear Little hearts,

Who can fail to be moved by this mystery, the meeting of Mary and Jesus on the way to Calvary… the eyes have their own language even though not a word passes from the lips….they can convey compassion, love, support, warmth. The gaze exchanged between those who love one another under and in any circumstance–speak!

The burdens are shared simply by being with the other….

Sometimes this is all we have to give to another weighed down by a great Cross, but they can bring that same comfort that Marys comfort brought to Jesus….

Faithfulness is so, so beautiful, faithfulness to what love has pledged us to. No matter what befall us…….

The eyes are the mirror of the very soul, may all see in your eyes… the Mercy, the Love, the Compassion of Christ….Man comes to understand so much of God through his human experiences….Pray to be a mirror of that divine love to others!!

Love Mary!… She is loveable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you. She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity – St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

The Third Sorrow The Loss of the Child Jesus for three days

The Third Sorrow

3. The loss of the Child Jesus in the temple: “And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the Child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and His parents knew it not. And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day’s journey, and sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And not finding Him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking Him.” Luke II, 43-45.

Dear Little hearts,

LOSS is something we have all experienced and all understand, loss through bereavement, separation, sin…. the hearts response is always to want union, reunion with that which is parted. We can have this experience in prayer too, when all seems loss, empty and dark, but within it all and all these emotions, experiences is God.

But here we are talking about the loss of a child, what a searing pain that is for any parent, mother and father…. flesh of our flesh….. lost…immediately the human mind can create a million threatening situations that the child could potentially be in…. yes we understand loss.

And in recent years the tragic case of Madeleine McCann in which any one who reads the papers or uses internet technology, knows and knew about this disappearance. How much more did Mary, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the purest and most perfect of mothers feel? And what a revelation it was at the end to find him in the Temple discoursing with the doctors! “Did you not know that I was in My Fathers house?”

Love Mary! She is loveable, faithful, constant.

– St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

The Second sorrow- Flight into Egypt

The Second sorrow

2. The flight into Egypt: “And after they (the wise men) were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise and take the child and His mother and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy Him. Who arose and took the child and His mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and He was there until the death of Herod.” – Matt. II, 13-14.

Dear Little hearts,

We can all understand this mystery for we are all exiles, exiles from our heavenly home…. we wander as strangers and pilgrims in this life… as Christians we are in one way exiled from this world, in that we do not or should not live according to the values of this world. This mystery unites us to thousands of refugees, thousands who have taken flight from terror and persecution. Exile is possessed of uncertainty, insecurity, and this is an invitation to trust God in all things.

Joseph was so entrusted with the care of Mary and the child Jesus… St Joseph is a beautiful saint, without his willingness and total obedience to the voice of the angel, all would have been lost! what then?

Love Mary!… She is loveable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you. She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity – St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

The first sorrowThe Prophecy of Simeon

Is your heart feeling pierced today like Mary’s? Go to her she knows and understands the pain of your heart.. Find peace in her Motherly care… Below is a meditation sent by the Poor Clare Colettines from Wales their writings bring comfort to us that live in this world of pain and sorrow. We pray that you will find comfort in today’s meditations as well as those to come.

God bless you, Hannah’s Tears Ministry

The First Sorrow

1. The prophecy of Simeon: “And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that out of many hearts thoughts may be revealed.” – Luke II, 34-35.

Dear Little hearts,

In this vale of tears our joys are so soon mingled with sorrow, it is always a reminder that we are pilgrims and that here we have no abiding city.

When Mary and Joseph took the infant Jesus to the temple to fulfil the Law, they must have known such joy… this special child, entrusted to them… the Messiah ! Like all new parents they must have shared laughter, and little words of preciousness that pass between parents, and yet so soon….

They hear the words ” A sword shall pierce your own heart”…. and as with us, when Mary hears these words they have a resonance in her own heart, she knows they are true…. they have been been spoken through a prophet of God… the old man Simeon.

And For Simeon too, he had waited all his life to glimpse the Messiah, to see his promise fulfilled…. his expectation may have been filled with expectation and joy, as for us too when we wait long for some perceived, expected joy, but when the moment comes he understands in the Spirit clearly, that there will be great suffering.

Mary so understands our sufferings and pain, there is no suffering , struggle or pain that we cannot entrust to her…

God gave us not only a Mother, a heavenly Queen , but he gave us a Mother with a heart full of compassion and love…. for she walked this Vale of tears too….. but ever with her eyes set upon the kingdom yet to come.

She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity.
