The Second sorrow- Flight into Egypt

The Second sorrow

2. The flight into Egypt: “And after they (the wise men) were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise and take the child and His mother and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy Him. Who arose and took the child and His mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and He was there until the death of Herod.” – Matt. II, 13-14.

Dear Little hearts,

We can all understand this mystery for we are all exiles, exiles from our heavenly home…. we wander as strangers and pilgrims in this life… as Christians we are in one way exiled from this world, in that we do not or should not live according to the values of this world. This mystery unites us to thousands of refugees, thousands who have taken flight from terror and persecution. Exile is possessed of uncertainty, insecurity, and this is an invitation to trust God in all things.

Joseph was so entrusted with the care of Mary and the child Jesus… St Joseph is a beautiful saint, without his willingness and total obedience to the voice of the angel, all would have been lost! what then?

Love Mary!… She is loveable, faithful, constant. She will never let herself be outdone in love, but will ever remain supreme. If you are in danger, she will hasten to free you. If you are troubled, she will console you. If you are sick, she will bring you relief. If you are in need, she will help you. She does not look to see what kind of person you have been. She simply comes to a heart that wants to love her. She comes quickly and opens her merciful heart to you, embraces you and consoles and serves you. She will even be at hand to accompany you on the trip to eternity – St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows
