Consecration and Entrustment

Below is a note to us from a dear Poor Clare Colettine (TMD) who is writing to us about the love of Mary.

Dear Little hearts,

The Month of May, Mary’s month is drawing to its close… it is a time to gather up all our love, our prayers, into a bouquet of love and present them to Our Mother Mary,  to entrust all things to her Immaculate heart. Let us consecrate the past, the present and the future to God through Mary.  The act of entrustment is as valid now as it was for the Jubilee year….because the sentiments it expresses are still so much the cry of the human heart.  Sometimes there are situations in life that we feel are beyond us, we feel helpless to influence to change, or the issues too overwhelming, at such times it is a deep and genuine prayer to consecrate the individual, persons to Mary and the Great Heart of God.

Act of Entrustment to Mary:  On Sunday, October 8, 2000, at the conclusion of the Jubilee of the Bishops, Pope John Paul II and the bishops entrusted themselves and the Church in the new millennium to Mary.

1. “Woman, behold your Son!” (Jn. 19:26).  As we near the end of this Jubilee Year, when you, O Mother, have offered us Jesus anew, the blessed fruit of your womb most pure, the Word made flesh, the world’s Redeemer, we hear more clearly the sweet echo of his words entrusting us to you, making you our Mother:  “Woman, behold your Son!”  When he entrusted to you the Apostle John, and with him the children of the Church and all people, Christ did not diminish but affirmed anew the role which is his alone as the Savior of the world.  You are the splendor which in no way dims the light of Christ, for you exist in him and through him.  Everything in you is fiat: you are the Immaculate One, through you there shines the fullness of grace.  Here, then, are your children, gathered before you at the dawn of the new millennium.  The Church today, through the voice of the Successor of Peter, in union with so many Pastors assembled here from every corner of the world, seeks refuge in your motherly protection and trustingly begs your intercession as she faces the challenges which lie hidden in the future.

2. In this year of grace, countless people have known the overflowing joy of the mercy which the Father has given us in Christ.  In the particular Churches throughout the world, and still more in this centre of Christianity, the widest arrays of people have accepted this gift.  Here the enthusiasm of the young rang out; here the sick have lifted up their prayer.  Here have gathered priests and religious, artists and journalists, workers and people of learning, children and adults, and all have acknowledged in your beloved Son  the Word of God made flesh in your womb. O Mother, intercede for us, that the fruits of this Year will not be lost and that the seeds of grace will grow to the full measure of the holiness to which we are all called.

3. Today we wish to entrust to you the future that awaits us, and we ask you to be with us on our way.  We are the men and women of an extraordinary time, exhilarating yet full of contradictions.  Humanity now has instruments of unprecedented power:  we can turn this world into a garden, or reduce it to a pile of rubble.  We have devised the astounding capacity to intervene in the very well-springs of life:  man can use this power for good, within the bounds of the moral law, or he can succumb to the short-sighted pride of a science which accepts no limits, but tramples on the respect due to every human being.  Today as never before in the past, humanity stands at a crossroads.  And once again, O Virgin Most Holy, salvation lies fully and uniquely in Jesus, your Son.

4. Therefore, O Mother, like the Apostle John, we wish to take you into our home (cf. Jn 19:27), that we may learn from you to become like your Son.  “Woman, behold your son!” Here we stand before you to entrust to your maternal care ourselves, the Church, the entire world. Plead for us with your beloved Son that he may give us in abundance the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth which is the fountain of life.  Receive the Spirit for us and with us, as happened in the first community gathered round you in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost (cf. Acts 1:14).  May the Spirit open our hearts to justice and love, and guide people and nations to mutual understanding and a firm desire for peace.  We entrust to you all people, beginning with the weakest:  the babies yet unborn, and those born into poverty and suffering, the young in search of meaning, the unemployed, and those suffering hunger and disease.  We entrust to you all troubled families, the elderly with no one to help them, and all who are alone and without hope.

5. O Mother, you know the sufferings and hopes of the Church and the world:  come to the aid of your children in the daily trials which life brings to each one, and grant that, thanks to the efforts of all, the darkness will not prevail over the light.  To you, Dawn of Salvation, we commit our journey through the new Millennium, so that with you as guide all people may know Christ, the light of the world and its only Savior, who reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Novena to Our Lady of Hope

I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope.  In me is all grace of the way and of the truth; in me is all hope of life and of virtue.  Come to me all that desire me and be filled with my fruits (Sirach 24:24-26).

O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Grace, Hope of the world.
Hear us, your children, who cry to you

Let Us Pray:  O God, who by the marvelous protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary has strengthened us firmly in hope, grant we beseech You, that by persevering in prayer at her admonition, we may obtain the favors we devoutly implore.  Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Hope

O Mary, my Mother, I kneel before you with heavy heart. The burden of my sins oppresses me.  The knowledge of my weakness discourages me.  I am beset by fears and temptations of every sort.  Yet I am so attached to the things of this world that instead of longing for Heaven I am filled with dread at the thought of death.

O Mother of Mercy, have pity on me in my distress.  You are all-powerful with your Divine Son.  He can refuse no request of your Immaculate Heart.  Show yourself a true Mother to me by being my advocate before His throne.   O Refuge of Sinners and Hope of the Hopeless, to whom shall I turn if not you?

Obtain for me, then, O Mother of Hope, the grace of true sorrow for my sins, the gift of perfect resignation to God’s Holy Will, and the courage to take up my cross and follow Jesus.  Beg of His Sacred Heart the special favor that I ask in this novena.

(Make your request.)

But above all I pray, O dearest Mother, that through your most powerful intercession my heart may be filled with Holy Hope, so that in life’s darkest hour I may never fail to trust in God my Savior, but by walking in the way of His commandments I may merit to be united with Him, and with you in the eternal joys of Heaven. Amen.

Mary, our Hope, have pity on us.
Hope of the Hopeless, pray for us.

3 Hail Mary’s

Lovingly,
A Poor Clare Colettine TMD

How GREAT Is Our God?

Video

Every time I hear the words IVF, it takes me back to the day (oh, probably 10 years ago) when someone shared their IVF story with me after Mass.  I was actually in shock…  Then in her very gentle voice she stated to me, “You have to do what You have to do”… I will never forget those words, as if they had been pierced into my heart.  I walked away from that conversation totally flabbergasted!  I couldn’t believe that a fellow Catholic would be so blunt about such a procedure.  In my heart, I heard the words, “No, I don’t have to do what I gotta do”.  These words stir in my soul every time I hear IVF.  Something, I wish had never been invented, but in my heart I know that God is moving mountains and Pope Paul VI Institute is preforming miracles through the grace of our loving God each and everyday through the gift of NaProTechnology.

How GREAT and Loving is Our God!

Let us put our trust in the Lord who made Heaven and Earth.  Christ built the (Catholic) Church and we must listen to Her voice, she is our mother on this earth and we are Her children.   God bless all of you who are following the laws of God and the Church, it’s not easy, but our rewards will be great in Heaven.  So let us follow the truth of this call.

Have a beautiful Memorial Weekend!

N.P.T. Over IVF

Ten Reasons to Choose
NaProTECHNOLOGY (NPT) Over IVF:
(in addition to being in line with Church teaching!)
by David Picella

  1. NaProTECHNOLOGY Focuses on Disease.  If a couple cannot get pregnant, it makes sense that the first thing the doctor must do is to find out why.  This is THE goal of the complete NPT program.  With IVF, the cause of infertility is not important and in the underlying problem it is completely ignored.
  2. Success Rates are Better with NaProTECHNOLOGY.  Recent data from the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha, NE, show that NPT success rates are 1.5 to 3 times better than IVF (23.5% versus 38.4%-81.8%).  In a 4 year study of 95 NPT couples who had been trying to conceive for an average of 6.1 years and had 176 failed attempts at an Artificial Reproductive Technique (ART) Boyle[1] reported that there were 123 conceptions. Life table analysis demonstrated increasing success the longer that couples remained in the NPT program with 26.2% pregnant at 12 to 17 months rising to 32.6% at 18-25 months.
  3. No Destruction of Embryos.  An analysis of ART data[2] from 1983 to 1986 demonstrated that the transfer of 1,372 embryos (3.2 per woman) resulted in 81 live births.  From this data, it is necessary to create 16.9 living embryos to produce one live birth.  The higher reported rates of success for IVF procedures usually means more embryos are being transferred which increases the risk of multiple births.
  4. No Infanticide:  “Selective Reduction” One of the most objectionable things about IVF is that it can result in a situation where a woman is forced to deal with a dangerously high multiple pregnancy rate.  Pregnancy risk increases dramatically with the number of babies in the womb.  Frequently, women are compelled to selectively “reduce” (i.e., kill) additional babies in the womb due to unacceptably high pregnancy risk.
  5. Natural Sex versus a Laboratory Procedure  In IVF, the sperm and eggs (gametes) are collected through masturbation (male) and harvesting (female) where they meet in a laboratory to form embryos which are then reintroduced into the woman’s body.  NPT, on the other hand, relies on a natural act of intercourse to achieve pregnancy.
  6. NaProTechnology is more cost effective  According to Collins[3], the median cost of one cycle of IVF in the United States in 2001 is $9,226.  $20-30,000 expenses are not unheard of, however, because IVF clinics prefer to sell discount packages (multiple cycles) in order to increase success rates and allow for “shared” risk.  In comparison, at one medical center in Duarte, CA (Santa Teresita), NPT has been cited as costing approximately $9,290 which includes a physician evaluation, hormone and ultrasound evaluation, and outpatient surgical treatment of infertility.  And unlike IVF, these costs are commonly covered by insurance.
  7. Pregnancy Outcomes  There is growing concern that IVF may have significant adverse effects on the children conceived with this procedure.  In a study of birth defects after ICSI and IVF procedures, Hansen et al. [4] reported that ICSI and IVF babies were more than twice as likely to have been diagnosed with a major birth defect by the end of one year of life (8.6% and 9.0%) as compared to naturally conceived babies (4.2%).
  8. You could get pregnant again!  Because natural fertility is restored with NPT, these couples are often able to get pregnant again.  In the Boyle study[1] of 89 births in women who had failed ART, there were 14 women with 2 live births, and 1 woman with 3 live births.  Since IVF does nothing to correct the cause of infertility, there is no benefit toward subsequent pregnancies.
  9. What will you have to show for it?  Ironically, in some cases IVF procedures cause additional harm to the female reproductive system in the course of treatment.  For example, some IVF clinics will perform surgical removal of a blocked and swollen fallopian tube in order to increase success rates[5].  In these cases, when IVF fails, fallopian tube repair is no longer an option.  This approach is contrary to the natural and restorative orientation of the NPT physician and surgeon[6].  NPT is designed to restore (not destroy) reproductive function.  If nothing else, NPT couples have had the underlying cause of the problem addressed which often results in better overall health.
  10. What happens after you get pregnant?  This is perhaps the most important question.  Frequently, couples who pursue IVF have not thought about what happens next.  Success equals pregnancy.  Unfortunately, ignoring the underlying problem that leads to infertility in the first place can adversely affect the pregnancy and even lead to miscarriage.  With NPT, restoring health and fertility begins before conception and continues throughout the pregnancy with the aim of preventing miscarriage and promoting the optimum health of the newborn baby and mother.

St Mary Magdalen de Pazzi Memorial

St Mary Magdalen de Pazzi
O Mary, anyone who looks at you is comforted in any anxiety or tribulation, or pain, and is victorious over any temptation. Anyone who does not know something about God let him have recourse to you, O Mary. Anyone who does not find mercy in God let him have recourse to you, O Mary. Anyone whose will is not in conformity; let him have recourse to you, O Mary. Anyone who falters on account of weakness let him have recourse to you who are all strong and powerful. Anyone in constant struggle, let him have recourse to you who are a tranquil sea….Whoever is tempted, let him have recourse to you, who are the mother of humility, and nothing drives away the devil more than humility. Let them, one and all, have recourse to you, O Mary!

***

Oh Mary, you have gone too high in telling me to love him as my Bridegroom loved him! And how did He love him? For them He left, so to speak in a certain way, the bosom of the Eternal Father, with His power, His wisdom and, in a way of speaking, His purity, in order to be able to dwell with the impurity of creatures. He left His substance and His faculties, and finally gave Himself and His own blood. And I too ought to leave myself and the love of all created things, and be prepared, should it be necessary for their salvation, to give my own blood.

***

O most pure Mary, I offer and give myself to you, not only with that purity and innocence that I received when I consecrated myself to you, but adorned beyond that, and then re-purified, and then adorned you again. Receive me, therefore, O Mary, and keep me within yourself.

“We Must Have Hope”

Dear Little hearts,
Sometimes in life because of legitimate demands on our time, provided by our own specific vocations, i.e parenthood, family life, consecrated life, caring careers, it can be difficult to find the space and time to enter the ‘garden’.
We should be perfectly at peace about this, providing the reason is not on account of indifference or laziness, we have been offering to God in our daily life and vocation the most beautiful of all gifts — our own will and we have been adoring the Divine Will by doing his pleasure.
Nothing is better, more preferable or praiseworthy, than doing His will no matter how holy and good it may appear to us.  So, be at peace, enjoy the present moment to the full, at such times simply draw aside into the ‘inner garden’ of your soul and tell Jesus and Mary how much you love them. When all is said and done, that is what God is ever seeking and wants to possess, YOUR HEART, for he loves you so!

Lovingly,
A Poor Clare Colettine, TMD

3  Hail Marys

Mary Help of Christians

I pray that Our Lady will bless the Carmelite Friars that care for this holy site.  I will never forget Fr. Healey, OCDS who used to be the spiritual director for our 3rd order meetings. What a happy soul he is and very accepting of God’s divine providence; I believe he taught me so much more by being in his presence then what he spoke.  He has a joy about himself that can only be a gift of the Holy Spirit.  I pray that I can receive this gift and also share it with others like you.

I pray that Mary Help of Christians will guide us to the Merciful Heart of her son Jesus Christ.  May we not loose sight of His love for us during times of trial, may we seek Him constantly and also beg for Our faithful Mother Mary to guide us always.

Prayer

By St. John Bosco

St. John Bosco - Jan 31st

Most Holy Virgin Mary,
Help of Christians,
how sweet it is
to come to your feet
imploring your perpetual help.
If earthly mothers cease not
to remember their children,
how can you, the most loving
of all mothers forget me?
Grant then to me,
I implore you,
your perpetual help
in all my necessities,
in every sorrow,
and especially in all
my temptations.
I ask for your unceasing help
for all who are now suffering.
 Help the weak,
cure the sick, convert sinners.
Grant through your intercessions
many vocations to the religious life.

Obtain for us,
O Mary, Help of Christians,
that having invoked
you on earth we may
love and eternally
thank you in heaven.
Amen.

Patron Saints for Preemies and all Babies in Need

Most of all don’t forget to sit with Jesus “Enthroned in the Eucharist”.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED AND EUCHARISTIC HEART OF JESUS
Jesus, burning with love for us, we love You more than life. You gave everything for love of us, and we now return everything for love of You. Do with us as You will, Lord. We ask only the grace to respond to all You may send into our lives / in the manner most pleasing to You. May all we do glorify You / and help bring Your Kingdom to earth. We wish to embrace each joy and suffering with great love. And even through our tears we whisper, “All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all for the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, in union with St. Joseph.”

Saint Crispin of Viterbo

Video

I absolutely love the name, Crispin!  He was celebrated by the Franciscan’s on Thursday May 19, but in some searches I have seen his feast stated as May 23; regardless I will assume that it was the 19th and this post was meant to be.  I feel the Holy Spirit must want us to learn something from this holy man, may he be an example to us all.
Crispin accomplished a remarkable amount of good in the area of social and spiritual assistance, energetically ministering among the sick, the imprisoned, sinners, unwed mothers, families experiencing hardship and those on the brink of despair. He was a skilled peacemaker both within his own Capuchin community and with others. Before beginning any task, Crispin always prayed first to Mary, his mother. He possessed a contagious joviality and his ministry was marked by a profound sense of joy. Nothing escaped his notice, particularly in discerning what people really needed. Daily he visited the sick and local prisoners, pleading their cause, urging the guards to respect their human dignity, bringing them bread, chestnuts and tobacco, and arranging for families to take turns providing the prisoners with good, home cooked meals. Babies were often abandoned on the doorstep of the friary and then placed in the care of Our Lady of the Star Shelter. Crispin took a personal interest in these foundlings, arranging for their being apprenticed in one or the other trade, and keeping in touch with many of them well into their adult lives. Crispin was filled with intuition and insight which prompted many learned people to seek his counsel.

Crispin was convinced that much of human misery, both material and spiritual, was due to injustice. He therefore set about to confront social injustice by admonishing merchants, reminding people of workers’ rights, and asking forgiveness of debts whenever possible. He used his sense of humor to lighten people’s burdens. Every little occurrence found its way quickly to Crispin’s ears. Without hesitation, he would offer himself as a mediator, friend, and counselor. Nonetheless, he was not without his critics and crosses, both within and outside the friary. Some called him opinionated and aggressive; others, a hypocrite. Some friars expected Crispin to make their life easier. When their expectations were not met, they became embittered. Besides many letters, Crispin left a treasury of maxims, among them, “One doesn’t get to heaven in a taxi.”

During the winter of 1747-48, Crispin fell gravely ill and was transferred to the provincial infirmary at Rome. Recovery was but temporary, and on May 19, 1750, the 82-year-old Crispin died of pneumonia at the Friary of the Immaculate Conception located near the Piazza Barberini on Rome’s famous via Veneto. Among the many sayings attributed to him was the exhortation, “Let us love God who deserves it!”

Crispin’s simple, humble holiness brought many local lay people to him for spiritual guidance. As word of his wisdom spread, his visitors became priests, bishops, then cardinals, and even a pope. Crispin was noted for paying little attention to the rank or status of a visitor, either high or low, but concentrating on talking to them all as equal children of the same God.

Beatified by Pius VII on September 7, 1806, Crispin was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 20, 1982.

Prayer for Preemies

                             A Premature Baby’s Prayer
God bless the little child behind the plastic wall
For all he knows is the ringing of the bells and
the blurred images around him. He has been taken
from my womb without warning and I long to hold him
in my arms.

Lord, I ask in your name that my child be healed.
I am willing to accept your decision no matter what
it will be. I am willing to take on the responsibilities
for caring for this child. I am willing to give this
child love and understanding no matter the cost.

Please Lord help me to accept reality and what has
happened without explanation or warning. Help me
face the fact that this is not my fault and that
I was given a special task to complete here on Earth.

God give my child the strength to make it through another
second, minute, hour and day as each moment is
a blessing and a triumph from heaven.

God, may you give the strength and compassion
to the caregivers and nurses that take care of my child
May you keep my child protected and free from all injury
and pain.

Please take away the guilt and burden from my heart dear
Lord. It is heavy and I feel it is all my fault.
Take it away dear Lord. Sweet Jesus allow me the strength
and understanding I need to communicate with the Doctors
and Nurses.

As you see dear Lord, I am at your mercy for the life of
my child. Please leave him here on Earth and know that
I will provide all the love and understanding that
this child needs. I accept the challenge and will be
your humble servant dear Lord.
