A Christmas Gift

A beautiful note received from the Poor Clare Colettine Nuns.

Dear little Hearts,

Psalm 51
Wash away my sins Lord
My guilt doth wear me down
Purify my heart.

How we all crave forgiveness as we cannot live with the burden of guilt. Christmas is very nearly here now the season for gift giving. Surely a gift of the heart is far more potent than a gift of the purse. Joy at receiving a wrapped gift can be shortlived but a gift straight from the heart can remain with the recipient a lifetime. One of the most valuable gifts one can give is the gift of forgiveness. How we long for forgiveness from our God for our wrong doings but what of those who are waiting for forgiveness from us.

Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

Carrying resentment for our fellow man in our hearts is as huge a burden as guilt itself. So, dear hearts, let us pray this morning that those of us who are carrying resentment may find it in their hearts to give as a gift this Christmas forgiveness. It will make the person we have forgiven very happy and also make ourselves immensely happy and give us peace of heart and what a wonderful Christmas gift for Jesus.

Offering to the Christ Child

You may wonder, why a post with a prayer of Saint Therese, during this advent season?

Something that came to me in prayer yesterday, was that I must prepare my heart for the Christ Child. I must wrap up my gift, my sufferings and give them to him, who takes all that I will ever endure when he takes up the cross during his passion. This image is everlasting as we go through the seasons of Advent, and the coming of Lent. Christ is alive, his life is ever present in the Mass and the sacrament of holy Eucharist. Just imagine that your cross was especially made for you, it was one of the many splinters that made up the cross that Christ carried for you and me. The vision of this shows me and I pray it shows you just how much He loves you as an individual.

You are that treasure that he holds close to his heart, more precious than gold!

What can I give the Christ Child this year? ME.

The prayer below is that offering of ourselves to Christ… Saint Therese knew suffering, but her suffering was also gifted with a joyful presence. May we learn to embrace the Child Jesus in our lives and may his true presence bring us the joy we need to accept all this life will bring to each of us. May his presence this year fill you with hope and peace! Let us open our hearts to the Christ Child that He may be born into our hearts this Christmas. May we also learn to be that tabernacle of love for him this new year. God bless you!

ACT OF OBLATION OF ST. THÉRÈSE OF THE CHILD JESUS
OF THE HOLY FACE TO THE MERCIFUL LOVE OF GOD
J.M.J.T.

Offering of myself as a Victim of Holocaust to God’s Merciful Love.

9th June 1895

O My God! Most Blessed Trinity, I desire to Love You and make You Loved, to work for the glory of Holy Church by saving souls on earth and liberating those suffering in purgatory. I desire to accomplish Your will perfectly and to reach the degree of glory You have prepared for me in Your Kingdom. I desire, in a word, to be a saint but I feel my helplessness and I beg You, O my God! To be Yourself my Sanctity!

Since You loved me so much as to give me Your only Son as my Saviour and my Spouse, the infinite treasures of His merits are mine. I offer them to You with gladness, begging You to look upon me only in the Face of Jesus and in His heart burning with Love.

I offer You, too, all the merits of the saints (in heaven and on earth), their acts of Love, and those of the holy angels. Finally, I offer You, O Blessed Trinity! The love and merits of the Blessed Virgin, my dear Mother. It is to her I abandon my offering, begging her to present it to You. Her Divine Son, my Beloved Spouse, told us in the days of His mortal life: “Whatsoever you ask the Father in my name He will give it to you!” I am certain, then, that You will grant my desires; I know, O my God! That the more You want to give, the more You make us desire. I feel in my heart immense desires and it is with confidence I ask You to come and take possession of my soul. Ah! I cannot receive Holy Communion as often as I desire, but, Lord, are You not all-powerful? Remain in me as in a tabernacle and never separate Yourself from Your little victim.

I want to console You for the ingratitude of the wicked, and I beg of You to take away my freedom to displease You. If through weakness I sometimes fall, may Your Divine Glance cleanse my soul immediately, consuming all my imperfections like the fire that transforms everything into itself.

I thank You, O my God! For all the graces You have granted me, especially the grace of making me pass through the crucible of suffering. It is with joy I shall contemplate You on the Last Day carrying the scepter of Your Cross. Since You deigned to give me a share in this very precious Cross, I hope in heaven to resemble You and to see shining in my glorified body the sacred stigmata of Your Passion.

After earth’s Exile, I hope to go and enjoy You in the Fatherland, but I do not want to lay up merits for heaven. I want to work for Your Love alone with the one purpose of pleasing You, consoling Your Sacred Heart, and saving souls who will love You eternally.

In the evening of this life, I shall appear before You with empty hands, for I do not ask You, Lord, to count my works. All our justice is stained in Your eyes. I wish, then, to be clothed in Your own Justice and to receive from Your Love the eternal possession of Yourself. I want no other Throne, no other Crown but You, my Beloved! Time is nothing in Your eyes, and a single day is like a thousand years. You can, then, in one instant prepare me to appear before You.

In order to live in one single act of perfect Love, I Offer Myself as a Victim of Holocaust to Your Merciful Love, asking You to consume me incessantly, allowing the waves of infinite tenderness shut up within You to overflow into my soul, and that thus I may become a martyr of Your Love, O my God!

May this martyrdom, after having prepared me to appear before You, finally cause me to die and may my soul take its flight without any delay into the eternal embrace of Your Merciful Love.

I want O my Beloved, at each beat of my heart to renew this offering to You an infinite number of times, until the shadows having disappeared I may be able to tell You of my Love in an Eternal Face to Face!

Let us prepare our hearts for the coming of the King, on the evening of December 17 the final phase of preparation for Christmas begins with the first of the great “O Antiphons” of Advent.

O Lord, stir up your might and come! Be our protector and savior. Rescue us from the dangers that threaten us because of our sins, and lead us to salvation. Hear our prayers, O Lord, and enlighten the darkness of our minds by the light of your coming on earth you who live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever, Amen.

Prayer to Obtain Favors:

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe O my God! to hear my prayer and grand my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother… Amen!

Prayer for our hearts…

This is such a beautiful prayer, I thought that it would be wonderful to share with you as we prepare for the 9 days before Christmas. May this be a novena of prayer for our hearts as we journey to find the Christ Child…

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED AND EUCHARISTIC HEART OF JESUS

Jesus, burning with love for us, we love You more than life. You gave everything for love of us, and we now return everything for love of You. Do with us as You will, Lord. We ask only the grace to respond to all You may send into our lives in the manner most pleasing to You. May all we do glorify You and help bring Your Kingdom to earth. We wish to embrace each joy and suffering with great love. And even through our tears we whisper, “All for the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, all for the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, in union with St. Joseph.”
We love You, Jesus. Be glorified. May Your reign be recognized on earth!

December 14, 2008 ~ Gaudete Sunday

A day to rejoice! We have finally reached the 3rd Sunday of Advent, a time of joy as we await Emmanuel. God love us so much that He sent his only son, Emmanuel, which means God with us. God is still with us through his gift to us in the Catholic Church, what a treasure we have been given in the richness of her wisdom. Friday December 12, All You Who Hope let many of us know that the Church in her wisdom has given us the CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH who has come out with “Dignitas Personae on Certain Bioethical Questions“. This writing from Holy Mother Church answers everything any Catholic couple who struggles with fertility needs to hear. God is so good to us…we are not alone. God is with us!!!!

Dear Family & Friends,

We have sad and disappointing news. Yesterday, at the sonogram we found out that our baby has gone on already to be with the Lord. We are going through the grieving process but not without hope. “I tell you most solemnly, you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn to joy. For I shall see you again, and your hearts will be full of joy, and that joy no one shall take from you.” (John 16:20)

I have a great rosary mediation book and in it is written, “We experience great sadness in life precisely because we forget things. Jesus institutes the Eucharist to make his love for us unforgettable….The Eucharist reminds us that we are possessed by God, and that Communion fills us with gladness and peace.” This is so true for me. When I remember that I belong to the Lord and that I can trust in His love and mercy, I find so much peace. I see Him again and my heart is filled with joy. When we have Him, truly we lack nothing!

And again, as we strive to reach heaven, our ultimate goal, these children we have lost on earth are just helping to direct our gaze onward. 🙂

We named the child Gerard. St. Gerard (1726 – 1755) is known as the patron saint of expectant mothers. I had just finished a novena to him on Tuesday. But the novena I did was not for expectant mothers. It was one to help you grow in virtue. I always added asking him to pray for the baby too. His dominant virtue was trusting in God’s Providence. The saint once remarked: “If anyone unable to bear the sufferings which God has sent him, calls on me for help…or if I hear of such a one, I will pray that God give him the grace of conformity with His holy Will.” He is doing this for us. And guess what! Today, 104 years ago, December 11, 1904, Gerard was canonized. I didn’t even know that until today. Isn’t that neat!

I did suffer some depression and a touch of despair last night as I couldn’t sleep. I knew it was only a passing moment for the Lord’s joy has always returned to me after such an experience. However, it did remind me to pray for all those who suffer from depression and despair with no hope. I believe it is unbearable. We must remember to pray for them and be ready to witness to the joy of the Lord at any moment to them. St. Gerard please pray for them.

Forgive me please for going on too much. But most of you should know me by now. You could have stopped reading awhile back. 🙂

Thank you again for all your prayers. They have definitely been effective, just not in the way we had hoped for, but in a way needed!

With love and affection,
Cookie

Saint Lucy

Saint Lucy

Prayer:
Saint Lucy, you did not hide your light under a basket, but let it shine for the whole world, for all the centuries to see. We may not suffer torture in our lives the way you did, but we are still called to let the light of our Christianity illumine our daily lives. Please help us to have the courage to bring our Christianity into our work, our recreation, our relationships, our conversation — every corner of our day. Amen

*The Legend of the Lucia Queen*

This is a feast traditional to Sweden but has now become world wide. Saint Lucy was a Christian maiden who lived many years ago in Rome. Because she refused to give up her religion she was burnt at the stake by the order of the Emperor Diocletian.
Her Saint’s Day falls on Dec 13th, a day that was actually already celebrated in pre-Christian Sweden as the beginning of the festival of light- the Winter solstice, the day when the sun was said to stand still. Because Saint Lucy’s feast coincided with the time of year when daylight was at its minimum, she was especially loved by the peoples living in lands that had long winter nights.
In Swedish homes, usually the youngest daughter is chosen to be the Lucy Queen. On Christmas morning wearing a white gown and a crown of lighted candles, she brings breakfast and a Christmas song to all the family assembled.
For us, our Christmas day is usually already full, but you might like to think of ways of creating a Lucy celebration of your own on her actual feast. Lucy is the source of much beautiful imagery, not least in Dante’s “Purgatory”, where she wanders through purgatory bearing a light for those sojourning there. A beautiful touch from a great poet.

Enjoy your feast of Light with Queen Lucia.
