“A LITANY FOR PEACE IN OUR HEARTS”

(WRITTEN DURING THE LOCK-DOWN BECAUSE OF THE VIRUS)

Lord, we need PEACE at this time.

Many of us are frightened, unsure, distressed, bewildered, lonely and alone.  We obey the rules and stay in our homes but the uncertainty and not-knowing when it will all come to an end is unnerving.  Some will die.  Some won’t be affected at all, physically but will carry scars mentally for years to come.   We need you in our lives at this time, Lord, more than ever before.  We need to commit ourselves to you.  Your loving mercy will be there before we even ask and you will see that all will be well but we need the confidence of knowing that you are in charge.  You know what is going on and you will be always at our side.  Help us to be aware of your presence.  Keep us calm in the knowledge of your love.  Hold us in quietness and in your peace.

May your words, Lord, give us peace.

May the smile of a loved one give us peace.

May the hope in our hearts give us peace.

May the sunshine give us peace.

May the green shoots of spring give us peace.

May the song of the thrush give us peace.

May the memory of a hug give us peace.

May the sharing of prayer give us peace.

May the thought of a loved one give us peace.

May the call from a friend give us peace.

May the offer of help give us peace.

May the acceptance of service give us peace.

May the trust that all will be well give us peace.

May the sharing of news give us peace.

May the memory of times past give us peace.

May the Spiritual Communion give us peace.

May the memory of our last visit to church give us peace.

May the wave of a neighbour give us peace.

May the visit of the postman give us peace.

May the sharing of internet services give us peace.

May the dedication of our priests give us peace.

May the union of families give us peace.

May memories of loved one who have died give us peace.

May the communion of parishes give us peace.

May the indwelling of Christ give us peace.

May persistence in prayer give us peace.

May the knowledge of God’s love give us peace.

In our times of panic, distress, worries and concerns may we put all our cares into your hands, Lord, knowing that you have us there already and these human responses are signs of our frailty but the sign too, that without you, we are lost in a mire of despondency.

This time of worry comes at the time of our remembrance of your Resurrection; the time of your reminder to us that you are in charge, you are the one who conquers, you are the one who overcomes.

May this Easter season fill us with hope and trust in your love, your mercy and your concern for our well-being, now and into eternity.  Amen.

“Praying at the Foot of the Cross | Holy Week”

As Fr. Toups invites us to prepare for confession and most of us probably won’t be able to receive this sacrament until we are freed from the nation wide isolation we are enduring do to the Corona Virus or COVID 19.

Note to SELF:

“Do not become burdened or overwhelmed but stand at the foot of the Cross, examine my conscience, and tell Jesus how sorry I am, and when I am able, I will run to a priest for confession to receive the blessing of absolution.”

Be NOT afraid!

St. Francis of Paola

From @The Catholic Company, today is the feast of St. Francis of Paola. Did you know his parents struggled with infertility? You are not alone… in fact, you are in very good (holy) company. Sts. Francis of Paola and Francis of Assisi, pray for us! 🙂🙏

St. Francis of Paola (1416-1507) was born in Calabria, Italy, to a husband and wife known for their holiness. After suffering childlessness for many years, his parents had recourse to prayer, especially the intercession of St. Francis of Assisi. They eventually had three children, and the eldest, Francis, was named after St. Francis in thanksgiving for his birth. Francis of Paola grew in sanctity, and after having a vision of St. Francis he spent a year in a Franciscan convent to fulfill a vow his parents had made to the saint. After his time there, he returned to his parents and accompanied them on a pilgrimage to Assisi. Upon returning home, Francis retired to a private spot on his parents’ estate to live as a hermit. He later moved his dwelling to a lonely cave by the seashore, living there in prayer, solitude, and mortification for six years. Disciples gradually came to him to imitate his manner of life, so many that St. Francis of Paola, with the permission of his bishop, built a monastery and church to accommodate them. He later obtained permission from the Holy See to found a new religious order called the Minims, or “The Least,” as they were to live hidden lives of poverty, abstinence, and humility. St. Francis of Paola became famous and was sought out by others for his prophecies and miracles. He spent the last three months of his life in solitude in preparation for his death. On Good Friday, after receiving Last Rites, he died while the Passion of Christ was read to him aloud. His feast day is April 2.

Prayer to St. Raymond Nonnatus

August 31:St. Raymond Nonnatus

Patron of: Newborns, Midwives, Obstetricians, Expectant Mothers, Women In Labor, Falsely Accused, Secrets, Fever.

O Blessed Saint Raymond Nonnatus, so loving to all your devotees, I being last of them all, I am happy to know that through the infinite goodness of God, He has deigned to make you a Saint, adorned thee with special graces and help, for which I am most thankful.

On the Most Holy Trinity, and you my adorable patron saint, through your merits and those of the blood poured by our Savior Jesus Christ, and through the Immaculate Conception of Mary, I most humbly beg thee, deign to intercede from the most sublime God, protection for the holy Mother Church, that through your prayers, God’s wrath be taken away, see the progress of true faith, defeat the wrong doctrines, the peace and understanding of all Christians, peace of the whole country and the redemption of the Christian captives.

I am humbly begging you my devoted saint, that you be may be my intercessor. Since for many hours you did not die of the womb of your dead mother an you were successfully delivered from her side, to be the joy of the world, and that my soul may live in grace in this earthly world, may I imitate you and live in exemplary holiness, so that when the hour of my death comes, I may detest all evil thoughts and temporary wealth of this world, so that with the burning love for God, my soul may reach heaven and together with you and the angels and all the saints, praise God Almighty forever.

Deign to grant me most amiable father the favor I am asking in this novena (mention the request). I firmly believe most amiable father that you will be my protection since you are merciful to any one imploring thy help.

But if the favor I am asking will not be for the glory of God and the good of my soul, then beg from God that I will be resigned to his Divine Will, so that I may have the peace of soul while I live, till the hour of my death and that I enjoy true happiness in heaven.

Amen.
