Look at the eyes!

More meditations

Some depictions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Great Heart of our God are very strong and forceful in their execution and some are tender, gentle, and yet most powerful, I think this is one of them.

This Christos has a most appealing face and gesture which says, Come to my Heart, do not focus merely on my miracles and wonders but gaze on love!!!!
The eyes are compassionate and full of love…Christ’s robe is blue the symbol of Hope, and we can always hope in his promises for he is faithful and he will always honour what he has promised us.
We do not always need new and innovative methods to feed our faith but we do well to deepen our existing knowledge and love of what we have within our beautiful catholic tradition and pictures certainly fall into this category. And did mankind ever need to know more that God is and that he loves us, poor and sinful as we are.

  1. An interesting side note about the color of his robes (blue and red): I studied Orthodox Icons in college, and as it turns out, the color choices of the artists were quite intentional and meaningful. Blue represented divinity. Red, humanity. So in many pictures of Christ, you will see blue at the source and red cloaked over it (his shoulder in this picture). Christ is divine at the source, and cloaked with humanity, being the interpretation.Mary, on the other hand, was often depicted with red underneath her blue cloak. She was cloaked with divinity but human at her source.Just thought I’d share that with you 🙂
